Yesterday I came across this on a trail. I’m not sure if it was intended as a trail marker or not, as it wasn’t at an intersection. But there it was, almost seeming to glow from a distance, pinned to an arbutus leaf. It’s no longer a red Remembrance Day poppy, it’s faded to orange, less so under the black centre.
Next to it is a fresh red poppy, obviously put there fairly recently. So did the orange one go up last year? Or just earlier this year? How fast do they fade? And why are they there at all?
Curious minds want to know.
