Pale and pretty

white fawn lily

I haven’t seen them here before, but I believe this is a white fawn lily, Erythronium oregonum. There was a little glade of them by a trail.

  1. Hi skadhu. This is a really nice shot. However, I don’t think it is quite right for Erythronium oregonum. If those are green spiky things are sepals at the base of the flower and you photographed it in the last few days (they are long done with in our part of the world), then I would say definitely not. Compare to these pictures: http://wp.me/p1R4lY-2vf. Not sure what to suggest though.

    1. You know, I wasn’t really happy with that identification—I think of fawn lilies as being earlier and as well, of having petals that are longer and sharper and not quite so regular. Furthermore, there was a second bud on the same stem. But I looked through 2 field guides and couldn’t find anything else that fit it. So I guess I should add “mystery” to the tags for it!

      1. Well, I am not strong on identification, and the flower itself sure looks like a fawn lily so I could have ended up in with the same ID.
