Have you ever seen new sap, the kind that catches the light and glows any shade from pale honey-gold to deep orangey-red? That’s not what this is, though it reminds me of it. This is a closeup of part of a red jellyfish, washed up on the beach, catching the morning light.

    1. btw, those ones (Cyanea) have a nasty sting. I put my arm in a bucket of them when I was a kid, and might as well have stuck it into a wasps nest.

      1. I heard that! So I’m very cautious around them, even when they’re dead on a beach. Did the stings have a lasting effect or did it pass off fairly quickly?
