drought-flattened sword ferns

One of the things you find in our forests is sword ferns. They’re tough, and keep their fronds firmly in place, if a bit raggedy, all winter, not like more wimpish ferns that die back when the cold weather hits.

One of the things you find in a forest that has had a drought for well over two months is flattened, “I’ve given up on the whole upright thing” sword ferns. As they can grow to almost 6 feet high, it certainly gives the forest a different look.
