Maple (leaf) squares

I don’t have a camera that takes square photos, but I do like to see what happens when you take a section of an image and put it into a square format.

I know, I know, I’m supposed to frame my photos perfectly in the first place. But the truth is, I’m a professional designer, not a professional photographer. I play with things—images, text, illustrations, and other visual elements that I assemble or create—in order to create a piece in which every single element works together to communicate exactly what I want it to. Design is an iterative process: it requires testing an idea, evaluating the results, testing again… over and over. For me, that process is playing. And I guess that process spills over into my photography.

Which is why I post so many square photos.
