It’s the robins that give away when there’s an owl in the area—they go hysterical with a particular alarm call (which you can hear on the video). So when I heard it this morning I followed the racket, and sure enough, there was Owl sitting in the catalpa staring at the slough, looking for frogs.
I took a batch of pictures just hand-holding the camera but I knew they’d be shaky. (And the shot of the hummingbird buzzing around the owl didn’t work out well—the little bugger moved too fast.) Then because Owl had been so patient I went back and got the tripod and set up right underneath and shot a bit more. I must say that the lack of concern for someone standing less than ten feet away was fairly amazing. Maybe it’s used to having its picture taken.
