Solstice and strawberry moon

moonrise over the ocean

Yesterday I went down to a beach just after 5 am and watched the solstice sunrise with friends. There were seals, possibly an otter, a hummingbird, and passing orcas. There was a faint sundog to one side of the rising sun.

In the evening I mediated and watched the full moon rise just before 9:30. There were seals, an eagle in the tree above us, drummers on the other point, and a collection of people who are good to spend time with.

Solstice and strawberry moon, all at once. I’m told that it will be 70 years till it happens again. I made a conscious decision not to take a camera, in order to be in the moment, but I took some snaps with my phone.

The world is a beautiful place, especially where we live.

Abstract (and not)

abstract seashore shapes

Well, the first one is quite  abstractish. Do you know what this is?

And the second one is somewhat abstract as well.

starfish arms

Ha! Nice graphic shapes, and it’s easier to see what it is. This is clearly taken on a jaunt to the seashore.

beached sandlance

As was this. The colours in the highlights on the scales are pretty amazing.

I haven’t a clue why sand lances seem to beach themselves like little miniature whales at this time of year, but they do. And if you scoop them up and toss them into the water they’ll head straight back onto land and start gasping.

Foot goes for a excursion

Yes, that hulking thing is in fact a Foot, in a nice down bootie because at the moment it won’t fit into a shoe.

Having been more or less trapped inside for two weeks, yesterday I whined and whinged and basically said MUST GET OUTSIDE NOW until Peri agreed. So I hobbled to the car and we drove down to a rather nice park with lovely views. And then took what is normally less than a 5 minute walk.

When you are on crutches and can only put half your weight on your broken foot, a park trail full of roots and gravel and suchlike takes considerably longer. But I made it to the lookout and the view.

Eventually it was Made Known to me that we were not going to spend all bloody day out in sub-zero temperatures, even if it was sunny, and I hobbled back to the car.

Today Foot isn’t sure it really appreciated the extra workout. But my sanity sure did.

Out of focus

Sometimes out of focus photos just look good. I quite liked this one.

And this is what it looked like in focus… I liked it that way too.
